STEPHEN WILKES

Stephen Wilkes is an American photographer that was born in 1957. He started working with photography at the age of 12. He went and studied photography at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, where he eventually graduated with a bachelor of science. Wilkes is mostly known for his Day to Night work which includes cityscapes of many major cities in the United States, like Manhattan, that shows numerous moments throughout the day and night. Photos for this work can take up to 15 to 18 hours to shoot with one continuous angle.

I absolutely love looking at Wilkes’s work, especially the Day to Night piece. Looking at every single picture within that work is breathtaking. The idea to how the entire day and also including a bit of the nightlife makes the pictures mesmerizing. It’s like every time you turn away and look back at the picture again you see different things. Wilkes takes such detail and care of the tiniest of moments and thing that are placed in the final print, and I just love it.
