MAN RAY

Man Ray (born as Emmanuel Radnizky) was an American artist who spent almost his entire career in Paris, France. He made a variety of different types of art, but thought of himself mostly as a painter. He was best know as a photographer with his portraiture work. His photograms are recognized, which he called "rayographs".

Ray's "rayographs" in my opinion aren't that creative or interesting to look at. To me, they seems like he just threw a bunch of things on the paper and exposed it. Some people describe them as "abstract and representational" and say that their is a story or a narrative behind the photograms, but I just don't see it.

His photography work on the other hand, I think is very creative and interesting like Ingres's Violin (1924). I loved how he used an abstract way to represent how a woman's body is shaped like a violin. The photo can be interpreted in many different ways, for example, a woman's body is so beautiful that it can be seen as something that plays wonderful music.
