CHEMA MADOZ
Jose Maria Rodriguez Madoz, or better known as Chema Madoz, is a Spanish photographer who is best known for his black and white surrealistic work and poetic photographs. Chema Madoz studied art history at Universidad Complutense de Madrid between 1980 and 1983 where he was first introduced to the study of photography and imaging. During an interview in 2001, he revealed that he uses a Hasselblad camera to photograph all his newest works. Hasselblad is a leading manufacturer of digital medium format cameras and lenses. Hasselblad cameras today are pushing medium format photography to the limits.
I love all of Chema Madoz’s photographs. They have just a beautiful contrast with being black and white, but what I love the most is how minimalistic they all are, especially the currently collection he has at the Robert Klein Gallery. My two favorites out of the photos have to be the feather with the needle and the chess pieces with the clockwork inside. The simple background, the angle chosen, and just the lighting and shadow work just makes me really appreciate and love this work, along with the small details of having different things, such as the needle where the stem of the feather would be and the gears inside the chess pieces.
