THOMAS FLECHTNER

Thomas Flechtner is a Swiss photographer, who lives and works in Vallière, France and Zurich, Switzerland. He is most known for using his analogue large format cameras in color with available daylight under the open sky and follows a special and complex process for his works.  Flechtner spent his childhood and school years in Seuzach near Winterthur. He came into contact with professional photography as a child through an uncle who ran a photography business. He completed his training as a photographer at the Ecole d'art appliqué in Vevey and he has been working as a freelance artist since 1987. Flechtner has been a part of many collections: public, solo, and group, along with winning many awards and publishing multiple books of his work.

I love taking photographs of anything in nature, whether it be a group of blooming trees or dead brush next to a river, the patterns you can find in nature fascinates me, so I loved a lot of Flechtner’s work, especially the “Leaves”, “Blumen”, and “Sakura” collections. The simple ‘headshot’ like photos of leaves are interesting to look at since you can see all the details and veins of the leaves while the over exposure of the sakura branches are so pleasing to look at even though its so bright. Even though, the photos in some of his works are out of focus, it’s like he does it intentionally so the audience can focus on the colors that the nature is giving off.
