BILL ARMSTRONG
Bill Armstrong is an American photographer who is mostly known for his colored fine art photographs, which are always blurred. He has been shooting in color for over thirty years and his work and collections have been exhibited in numerous museums, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Southeast Museum of Photography, Brooklyn Museum, Houston Museum of Fine Art. Armstrong’s works have also been published in books, like Face: The New Photographic Portraitby William Ewing and Exploring Color Photography by Robert Hirsch. He currently is a part of the faulty at the International Center of Photography and the School of Visual Arts.
My personal favorite series done by Armstrong is falling through history. He depicts historical people from ancient Greece to the present as falling. The photographs have a sense on minimalism that I enjoy: the colorful background and the falling figure that is in a different color that complements the background color. My favorite photograph in the entire series has to be the one that represents the myth of Icarus, mostly since the photograph shows the probable result of Icarus flying too close to the sun and having his wings melt.
